and nothing to post! I just returned from a week of vacation (in Savannah for the curious), took a look at the calendar, and thought, uh oh. I need to go be witty or provocative or something this morning! My brain is not quite up to it right now.
Why is it we return from vacations more tired than when we left? And knowing we’re going to come home exhausted why do we keep going? I’m not sure I can answer that one, but I got something incredible from my kids yesterday, something I think I need to do more often.
Yesterday afternoon we were at a friend’s house on Ft Stewart and it started to rain. The back yard turned into one big giant mud puddle. Some of the neighborhood kids were splashing around in the water on the street. Lisa and I looked at each other and just couldn’t help ourselves. Before you knew it, there were four girls (11,11,10 and 10) and two adult women (ages withheld to protect the not so innocent) playing in the mud. I don’t remember the last time I had so much fun with my girls and the amazing thing is I was so relaxed after dinner I sat down and wrote a new chapter on my wip. I think I’ve discovered a new cure for writer’s block!
I’m curious this morning what do y’all do to relax, to regain some of that joy for life we had when we were kids and there were no worries? Do you find it helps with writing or work?

I’m just finishing up vacation too. Took a bus trip into Washington D.C. earlier this week and we were exhausted when we got back to the RV! Today we’re just relaxing at a campground in southern PA before heading home tomorrow morning.
But relaxing for me means I already got a synopsis written this morning…it’s so much easier to write when I haven’t been at the ddj all day. Vacations, even busy ones, definitely help with the writing.
And your fun in the mud sounds like a great time!!
In the summer and spring, I like to sit out beneath the 3 story maple in my back yard and read. Or take a weekend afternoon nap in the quiet upstairs. These are rare events for me, but when they happen, it’s wonderful!
We do a mandatory Saturday Movie night, too, where we shut out the world and watch strange flicks, mostly hong kong cinema or screw ball comedy (sometimes the movies have elements of both).
Memorial Day Weekend, DH & I took a quick trip to see relatives and I thought I’d just relax – no writing on this trip. The pressure to produce was gone. No expectations.
And wouldn’t you know it? Halfway there, I get this great idea for a new story, wrote two pages of notes and since then have written 8000 words on it.
I actually just came back from a short weekend at the Shore. That’s the beach for those of you who don’t live in or near NJ.
I actually began revising an ms. It was really nice to just be. I didn’t have kids with me. I was under no obligation to do anything so I sat listening to the ocean and revised. Got a lot done,.
Wish I could spend more time by the water.
