It’s in His Kiss

By Sydney.Somers on February 26, 2009

I think the “Shoop Shoop Song” really gets it right. Whether I’m holding a romance in my hands or watching it on the big screen, I’m always waiting for the moment when the couple comes together. When the chemistry is sizzling and I’m on the edge of my seat, anticipating that first kiss. Or maybe it’s their last or one in between. Sweet kisses, hungry ones, kissing in the rain, kisses loaded with conflict and tension or the soft, barely-there brush of lips. I love em’ all.

So today I thought I’d share some of my favorite Hollywood lip-locking moments. :)

10. Gone with the Wind – Rhett and Scarlet. What more is there to say?

9. Spiderman – Love the movie or not, that upside down kiss is certainly memorable.

8. Meet Joe Black – I love the way Joe (Brad Pitt) doesn’t know at all how to react to being kissed, and then watching it play over his face as he realizes how much he likes it…

7. Titanic – I don’t know if it’s the music, the sunset or the way they don’t rush it, but Jack and Rose’s kiss on the bow of the ship lingers long after disaster strikes.

6. Pretty Woman – Sweet and fun. What isn’t incredibly charming about a man who faces his fear of heights to “rescue” the woman he loves?

5. Shakespeare in Love – There are definitely a few favorite moments in this one.

4. The Princess Bride – “Since the invention of the kiss there have been five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind.”

3. Bridget Jones’ Diary – A desperate woman in sneakers, a sweater and her knickers. Plus there’s that line about how nice boys kiss.

2. Beauty and the Beast – Just when all hope seems lost… Disney magic at its finest.

1. The Notebook – The rain. The tension. The kiss. Awesome.

So what are some of your favorite movie kisses?

  1. Ahh, Meet Joe Black, classic.
Shakespeare in love, one of my favs when he unwraps her and kisses her.
The Wedding Planner when she wasn’t expecting it.
My Best Friend’s Wedding when the kiss goes all wrong
Hands down right now is Braveheart when the French Princess goes on about how this man loves and honors his dead wife. The love he married her in and died in. Dying for a love and believing in love. Then when he sees he come to him as he dies. OMG I ball everytime I see it.

  2. I always forget the Bridget Jones one!

Aragorn and Arwen in Return of the King, the Phantom and Christine in Phantom of the Opera, the kiss at the end of Never Been Kissed and the kiss in The Replacements, with Keanu Reeves. Mmm. Oh, and A Walk in the Clouds. And Witness.

  3. Love a lot of these! Hands down, though, my fave is the kiss from North and South (the BBC version, not the Civil War movie). It’s hot, sweet, and heart-stopping. Swoon!

    Linkage: warning—spoilers

(So if you don’t want to know how the story ends in advance, go watch the whole miniseries first. In fact, I recommend that whole-heartedly!)

  4. Rhett and Scarlett in the parlour at the beginning of Gone with the Wind.
Susan Sarandon & Kevin Cosner’s “oh my!” kiss in Bull Durham.
Definitely Spiderman’s upside down kiss from the first movie.
Audrey Hepburn and Sean Connery in Robin and Marion.
Live Tyler and Vigo Morgenstern in Return of the King.
The kiss on the beach in From Here to Eternity
and speaking of Disney magic, the spaghetti kiss in Lady and the Tramp.

  5. a.k.a. Kissy lol

City of Angels is one of my favorites.

I can’t believe I’ve only watched 2 of the movies on your list.

  6. Ah Joe Black definately
The very first kiss in The Princess Bride
Mia’s first kiss in Princess Diaries
    The Little Mermaid kiss

  7. Deb – The “unwrap” scene was definitely a favorite.

MJ – I totally forgot about the scene from Never Been Kissed on the ball field. Mmmm. I’ve been in lust with Michael Vartan since his Alias days.

Kate – It’s been soooo long since I’ve seen that. Must put that on my rainy-day list.

Jane – Yes. Bull Durham. Just the conversation alone about kisses is hot.

Joy – LOVED City of Angels. And only 2? We’re gonna have to strip the name “Kissy” at this rate. LOL

Tina – Definitely the Little Mermaid. I’m a complete sucker for Fairytale romance, animated or not. :)
