It’s Time to Mingle!

By Allie.Boniface on February 7, 2009

I have a confession to make: I am not shy in public. Oh, once upon a time I might have been, when I first appeared at a book signing and didn’t know what on earth what to wear or what to bring or what to say to people. But since then, I’ve gotten over that fear. Here’s the thing: I really like meeting readers and other authors.

Lucky for me, I’ve hooked up with a number of other romance authors in my local area and done my fair share of joint bookstore appearances. I’ve done a few signings and readings on my own, too. And nothing is more fun than talking to other people who like to read and write the way I do!

This afternoon I have the awesome opportunity to be part of a “Romance and Chocolate Event” at the Borders store in Farmington, Connecticut. There will be close to 15 of us, and some of those authors are pretty well known (want to know more? Check out the News section of the Samhain website). While I’ll admit a little bit of trepidation, because this is the biggest event I’ve been part of yet, most of me is just excited. Excited to talk to them, excited to meet readers of romance (or just browsers of bookstores), and excited to read aloud from one of my novels.

I know many authors shrink from putting themselves out there in public. I was one of them. But here’s the thing: it’s a whole lotta fun to meet and mingle, and it really isn’t as scary as you might think. And hey – if you’re a reader who loves to meet authors, and if you’re in the Farmington area this afternoon, swing by and check us out. You won’t be disappointed!

  1. I will always be shy in public. If I sold as many books as Stephen King, I would still be that way. So I force myself to do the best I can to hide it!

  2. I bet you had a blast! Wish I could’ve attended!
