Losing my mind

By Meg.Allison on April 2, 2009

There are few things that make you feel crazy faster than forgetting stuff — appointments, phone numbers, where you put your keys… days you’re supposed to blog. (ahem)

It seems to get worse with age, although I’m still a little too young to blame it on that. My issues seem to stem more from having too damn much to do!

The children are growing up — ours are now 9, 11 (tomorrow), 13, 16 & 18. As they grow, their ‘to do’ lists also grow. Until I get the oldest two firmly entrenched in the driving world (shudder), my job as chauffeur to the masses is intact. Of course, add the myriad of errands that my dh asks me to take care of, plus home work, cleaning, cooking, teaching AND writing????

Yeah, there are days when my head is ready to explode. Honestly, there’s been a moment or two when I wished it would.

So how do you keep from losing your mind when the world seems destined to fail without you? I could really use some advice.

Oh, Meg, I feel for you, I really do. The last two weeks have been crazy for me. My busyness doesn’t come from children, however, except the teenagers I have at church. The weekend before last I spent two nights at the church with 20+ teens for a weekend activity. It was great and very rewarding, but when it was all over I was exhausted. Then last Friday/Saturday was another all night event with the teens (this time only 10). By this past Monday I was exhausted and just couldn’t get out of bed. So, I called into work and told my boss I was just too tired. Luckily, he understands – his daughter is one of my teens.

I don’t really have any advice, except to say when things start to overwhelm you, decide what’s most important and do that first Then, take a hot shower and go to bed. The rest will work itself out – or not. In the end, you can only do so much and recognizing that is the best thing you can do.
