I have a confession to make. Until a couple of months ago, I’d never heard of Twitter. Heck, I’d only recently discovered Facebook. (Yes, I’m that techno-challenged.) I’m from the generation where cell phones (“portable phones” as they were called way back then) were bigger than a shoe box. CB radios were the hot item in my time and every car had an antenna on top. (Wow, does that make me sound as old as I think it does?)
But now I’ve found Twitter and I’m hooked. Twitter is instant gratification for my ego. I love the idea of posting whatever I’m doing, however I’m doing it, whenever I’m doing it. Why? Because it makes me feel important. With all my followers tracking my every move, how else should I feel? Want to know how my morning went? Just get an update. Want to know what mood I’m in? Wait for my tweet. Can’t wait to hear how the weather is where I live? Check my Twitter page. Great, huh?
Er, maybe not so much. Now that I’m on Twitter I feel a responsibility to update my page every day. In the middle of working on my next book, I gasp and wonder, “Have I sent a tweet lately?” I will, in fact, stop and post an update. This isn’t conducive to writing, by the way. I have to wonder, however, does anyone really care?
So tell me? What do you think? Do we really need to know what’s going on in our contacts’ lives every hour of every day? Or are we seeking an outlet for our disconnected world? Is Twitter the greatest communication tool ever devised? Or just another distraction in our busy day?
Tell me. Are you all a-twitter for Twitter?

I’m new to Twitter too, and I’m actually enjoying it a lot. Rather than provide a lot of updates about what I’m doing (I do those too), I’m finding it to be a great source of help and information – I can toss a question out there and get a lot of answers pretty quickly. It’s also becoming a great way to network with other authors – I can retweet thier announcements, and hopefully in turn they will retweet mine.

Right now, I’m resisting Twitter—and Facebook!
But I’m sure I’ll cave in… LOL!
