Some authors know from the time they first hold a pencil that they want to become a writer. I followed a different path. I loved to read and became a teacher. One afternoon while on summer vacation, my elder son and I were watching a movie on TV. A commercial came on for a romance novel and I turned to him to ask, “How difficult could it be to write one of those books?” Jeff answered, “Go for it, Mom.”
As they say, the rest is history.
I began with research. I went to the public library and read, outlined and studied category romances and books on writing. I met a woman who was hoping to sell a romance, a friend gave me her favorite historical romance, and nudge by nudge, I became increasingly inspired to become a writer. When my first editor called to make an offer on the historical I’d submitted, Jeff answered the telephone and gave her my school number. He considers himself a vital part of my writing career from the beginning.
I’ve now retired from teaching to write and I’m thrilled with my latest contemporary, DEFY THE WORLD TOMATOES, which will be a Samhain release today. I love to create strong women and Darcy is a landscape architect determined to make her nursery, DEFY THE WORLD TOMATOES, a success. A strong-willed, independent woman needs a man worthy of her, but she could not have imagined Griffin, a concert pianist who is a rock star of the classical world. He’s used to traveling first class, and she drives a truck. He appears on concert stages around the globe, and she’s rooted in place. They are attractive and passionate, if an improbable pair, and while Darcy knows Griffin is trouble, no one has ever doubted her courage. I hope you’ll love DEFY THE WORLD TOMATOES and send me your comments: firstname.lastname@example.org
