This weekend, Lisa and I met our best friend Wendy at Disneyland, a great meeting point for the three of us, since Lisa and I live North of Los Angeles, and Wendy lives in San Diego. Over dinner, as we were toasting being together, we realized we were celebrating a milestone—twenty-five years of friendship.

This got me thinking about relationships in the books I read…and write. I love to read about friendships in books. You can learn a lot about what makes people tick from the company they keep. Since Lisa and I are best friends and we write together under the pen name Ashleigh Raine, it’s second nature for us to include friendships in our books. Blaina and Samantha, who are featured in our books Acting on Impulse and Driven to Distraction, and Mariah and Twyla, from Lover’s Talisman and Forsaken Talisman. Both those sets of friends share a lot in common with Lisa and I, and Wendy too, in the way they talk, interact, and in how they’d do anything for each other.

I can’t imagine a life without my friends. We’ve been together through the ups and downs, and even some loop-de-loops and sideways curls. The roller coaster of life is easier to ride when you have friends who can scream along with you. Or friends who can scream with you while riding roller coasters of the amusement-park variety—like I got to do with my two besties at Disneyland during one fantastic day of fun, adding to a lifetime of memories I have with these amazing ladies.
