I love writing reunion stories. I think because the characters come to the table with built-in conflict. Because if they have a shared past, something happened to break them up. They have ISSUES. And now they have a second chance to get it right… or screw it up again.
In INTO THE FIRE, Chris and Ally have been in denial that they are still important to each other. Three years earlier she gave him back his ring. It was Over with a capital “O”. That is, until her “pet” project – a no-kill animal shelter – suffers a devastating fire. Ally’s determined to get everyone out – and by everyone I mean cats and dogs. And Chris’s main concern is getting HER out alive. Because in that moment when he realizes the danger she’s in, he knows that nothing has really changed.
The problems that tore them apart the first time haven’t gone anywhere, but neither has the sizzling attraction. This time they’re going to deal with their issues. Maybe they’ve grown up a little bit. Whatever the reason, it was incredibly fun writing this story.
