All About Heidi Moore

Born in the middle of nowhere in Africa and currently living in the middle of nowhere in the Middle East, Heidi likes to think of herself as a citizen of the world. She is the mum of three amazing girls who take turns making her want to hug them, brag about them and sometimes hide in the loo from them.

After getting her BA in English language and literature and her teaching diploma, she spent 5 years as a high school English teacher and freelance writer working on literature-based course books. Heidi joined Samhain Publishing in the summer of 2007 as an acquisitions and content editor and since then has enjoyed working with a fantastic group of talented authors writing in multiple genres.

She frequently rambles, sometimes rants and genuinely tries to make sense (although it might not always show). She also hates talking about herself in 3rd person.

The One Where Heidi Hopefully Makes At Least One Interesting Point

By On Sep 9 2013, 8:23 am

Yesterday I sat down and counted how many Samhain titles I’ve edited. Since I’ve been at Samhain for over six years, I had a fair amount of releases to add up.

I have contracted and worked on 194 Samhain books – and if you add my 13 Retro titles to that, I come out with a whopping 207.

That’s a lot of words.

So what have I learned while working on those 207 titles?

I’m going to ramble a bit about that now…

I’ve learned that there is no sure thing. I’ve worked on books that I thought were awesome (which obviously means they were ;) ) that have sold like puffy duvets during a hot August. And I’ve had books I liked for being solid reads that have sold more copies than I can count. Sometimes everything can be right about a book and it still doesn’t sell like you expected. This doesn’t mean the next one won’t! Read more…

A few weeks ago, I was at a friend’s house and she brought out the book her sister-in-law wrote and had published by a very respectable New York publishing house. Since my friend knows what I do, she has been talking to me about this book and her sister-in-law’s experience for well over a year. [...]

Summertime, And the livin’ is easy…unless you’re a mom who works from home

Summer comes early in my little part of the Holy land. We’ve already had temperatures up in the nineties and spent the weekend swimming at the Sachne – the gorgeous hot springs a few miles down the road that National Geographic voted as one of the top ten most beautiful places in the world (we’re [...]

The same but different

Anyone who knows me, even a little, knows I can spend a fair amount of time with my foot in my mouth I’ve thrown name (South African slang for made a fool of my myself) in quite a few different countries and more than a few languages.  In a note I wrote to the parents [...]

I am the first to admit I am a packrat, a hoarder in the making. I like to keep stuff in case I end up needing it one day. Drives Mr. Mooreish crazy since he was raised in a house that had no knickknacks or junk or empty jam jars. We’ve moved houses 11 times [...]
