Writing Where There’s a Will, my contemporary romance set in the western Highlands of Scotland, was truly a labor of love. I’ve been fascinated with all things Scottish most of my life. Several years ago, I was able to visit the country, and writing this book gave me a chance to revisit the Argyll peninsula, if only in virtual form.

Though many romance novels set in Scotland are historical, I decided that a contemporary story would better reflect the experience I had with the country. I even snuck in a few of my own experiences—the trip to Inveraray Castle, trudging through a sheep field, and exploring broken-down castles (though I never heard or saw anything that seemed to be a ghost). I also spent a good deal of time online, looking at more recent pictures of the areas I’d visited and making sure I remembered things correctly.

As I did my research, I was surprised at how much the area had changed. Perhaps I shouldn’t have been—it had been a long time, after all. But many things hadn’t changed at all. Which also shouldn’t have been surprising, since many of the things I had enjoyed most about Scotland have been there for centuries.

I hope you enjoy my trip through Argyll, accompanied by Malcolm MacTavish and Chloe Sullivan. I had a very good time writing it.

I’m happy to announce that Starchild is now out in paperback! I received my author copies last week, and they’re some of the shiniest paperbacks I’ve ever seen.

I hope you’ll spend some time adventuring with Fairfax and Cavendish.
