Release day!
Those two words contain so much that they should pulse off the page. To me, they mean months of writing, rewriting, editing and revising before taking a deep breath to settle the nerves and sending the finished manuscript off to a publisher. Weeks of waiting follow and then, finally, the email of acceptance and happy dancing. Before you can take a breath, there are more edits, blurbs, promotion and then the whirlwind parts and the day comes and with it, nerves. It’s like seeing your child walk across the stage to accept his or her diploma. Pride, melancholy, fear and joy mix until you can’t feel one without experiencing the others. Will people like it? Will it do well?
Well, today I’m excited to announce my first Samhain book, CREATIVE LICENSE, is on the cyber shelves. I’ve wanted to write for Samhain since I read the first book warning years ago, and CREATIVE LICENSE seemed like a good fit. I love the cover!
I wanted to write a story with an unlikely couple who had amazing chemistry and that pretty much describes Caleb and Lily. Caleb is, hands down, my favorite (so far) hero. Can you crush on your own character? Um, yes. Before I met my wonderful boyfriend, Caleb was my dream man… in fact, they have quite a bit in common. But CREATIVE LICENSE almost didn’t get written. I thought the "we-married-in-Vegas", had been done too much and after the initial ‘what-if’ session, put it on the back burner for about 6 months. Some characters don’t like to be on the back burner and Caleb and Lily certainly didn’t. I finally laid the storyline out to a dear editor friend of mine and she convinced me to go for it. I’m so glad I did.
It is a dream-come-true to be published by Samhain and I really hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it.
This week on my blog I'll be announcing a new contest… where a lucky winner can win chocolate body paint, I'll also be sharing some of my favorite chocolate recipes. What does chocolate have to do with CREATIVE LICENSE? Well, Caleb is an artist well skilled in many artistic mediums. ; )
