The Re in Read

By Marie.Harte on March 24, 2012

I’m an addict, and I freely admit it. I love romance. Books, movies, life. The thought of two people (or more) falling in love just makes my whole world feel right. Romance is my favorite genre to read because I’m guaranteed a happy ending. And that guarantee feels vital to my sanity and survival as a romance author.

I have a vast library. A store of books on my “keeper shelves.” Yes, I re-read them. Friends who love books understand this concept. When you love a story, you don’t care that you already know the ending. That the conflict will still begin and end the same way. It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve read the books, I’ll read them again to get my fix of happily-ever-after. Sometimes I like to take a chance on a new author or storyline, and it’s a fifty-fifty shot I’ll either love the book or be disappointed.

But my old tried-and-true stories deliver. Johanna Lindsey, Jayne Ann Krentz, Shelly Laurenston, Christine Feehan, Josie Litton, Sabrina Jeffries, Kim Harrison, the list goes on and on. Every so often I go through those same books and remove a few, but more often than not, I’m trying to make space for new additions.

It thrills me to have a space on my shelves I've reserved for my own stories.  I'll occasionally re-read my own stuff. If I can’t entertain myself, what chance do I have to entertain anyone else? It’s fun to read stories from years ago, and incredible to see how much I’ve grown as a writer and reader in what I look for and improve upon.

So to all those who dump a book as soon as they read it, I ask, why? Why not get more enjoyment out of it a second or third time? Or in some cases, a tenth time?

Happy reading!

Waiting…

By Marie.Harte on October 14, 2011

I'm not a patient person. So it's a wonder I chose a career in which I have to wait a while to hear back from editors, agents, publishers, you name it. Recently, I've been trying to purchase a house. And once again, I'm waiting on word. So that got me thinking. What career might you have in which you don't wait for anything? Being a doctor?  You wait on permissions for procedures, right? Or a lawyer? You wait on rulings and hearings. A policeman? More waiting on bureacracy.

Is there any profession or calling in life where you don't have to wait on anyone or anything?  I honestly can't think of one. Even my poor characters have to wait until I get time to sit at the computer and tell their stories.

And so I continue to sit by my phone and computer, waiting..  In the meantime, here's a sneak peek at Closing the Deal, coming to Samhain in December. (See? Still waiting…grin)

Sydney's been waiting three months for her dream date with Derrick, only to be angrily disappointed the day after. But will the stubborn man take no for an answer?

Don’t hang up.”

“I’m sorry. What?” Sydney Fields fiddled with her cell phone and cast a worried glance at the doorway. Her client was due to show up at any minute. “I’m working right now, so you can just—”

“Damn it, don’t hang up. I’m trying to apologize!”

“Don’t worry about it. As far as I’m concerned, it’s done. So if you could just—”

“I didn’t agree with Brittney. I had no idea what the hell she was even talking about. I wasn’t listening. Christ, I broke up with her six months ago. I just wanted to get her off my ass and away from our table before you came back from the bathroom. But she wouldn’t leave. Woman was clinging to me like a freakin’ vine.”

Sydney forced herself to keep her cool. She could handle Derrick Warren. She’d been handling him for three months now. Three long months spent talking, flirting and laughing over the phone with the man of her stupid dreams. She’d seen him once or twice, but not for longer than it took to say hello or goodbye. He was so handsome, and he’d been so charming. Sydney, a woman who didn’t do relationships, had considered making an exception for him. Too bad he’d turned into a complete ass on their first—and last—date.

I’m a bibliophile. I love books. The smell of them, the feel of them. And most importantly, the words in them… Printed or electronic, if it’s a good story, I could really care less about the medium it’s in. And so years ago, before the Kindle took off, I had an ereader. An eBookwise from Fictionwise, before the business was sold to Barnes & Noble. It was backlit, no Wi-Fi. It had a USB cable for downloading books and a stylus to manage functions. And it only previewed books. No Internet, no audio, no games. I used Fictionwise and eBookwise to purchase most of my books, though I could also use a software conversion tool for my own documents.

Fast forward to the unveiling of the Nook. It had color at the bottom of the screen. Color. A stupid reason to choose it over another ereader. But what can I say? The first car I bought had headlights that flipped up. Simple minds for simple pleasures, right? Yet the original Nook had issues. December  2009 was a miserable experience when I couldn’t download any books from the B&N site. Thankfully, they’ve fixed a lot of issues since then. Page turns have improved, as has battery life. You can still move pages back and forth using the side pads or by swiping your finger along the bottom of the device. And there’s now a beta Internet feature, as well as audio and games.

But I’d heard so many positives about the Kindle. Prices went down. And then Mother’s Day just happened to roll around…

A year and a half later I own a Kindle. It’s got Wi-Fi and it’s 3G. The page turns are remarkably fast, I can delete content straight from the Kindle (unlike the Nook, grr) and organizing is a breeze.

So, which do I like better? For me? Drum roll…  The Kindle.

I don’t care about color versus black and white. The e-ink technology looks the same to me on both devices. I have a book light for both too, so reading in the dark isn’t an issue either. I don’t want an e-reader to access the Internet. I want it to read books, period. The Kindle is faster, the battery life lasts longer, and there’s more content to choose from, in my opinion. Not to mention prices are at times cheaper at Amazon for ebooks than elsewhere.

Will I give up my Nook? Heck no. I still have my handy dandy eBookwise as well. But for now, the Kindle is my favorite. And in just another few weeks, I’ll be downloading another of my books to it. In glorious grayscale, my cover will stand out and smile at me. I’m happy with my books, electronic and print. And I’m ecstatic that the world seems to be catching on to ebooks. Finally! Welcome, welcome to the party.

Happy Reading!

Christmas is Coming

By Marie.Harte on December 23, 2010

Christmas is just three short days away, counting today of course. Tradition is one of those things that rears its head during the holiday season. I’m always intrigued by why we do what we do, and I thought I’d share a little of that today.

For example, Germans brought the Christmas tree into being. Before that, pagans used green boughs as decorations to show life and prosperity during the winter solstice.

Father Christmas came about as the result of Saint Nicholas, a giving man to those less fortunate. He put gold in stockings and gave gifts in secret. Sound familiar? Santa Claus is a version of Sinter Klaas, the Dutch translation of Saint Nicholas.

What I find very interesting is that we celebrate Christmas on December 25th, a date that coincides with Saturnalia and other pagan celebrations surrounding the sun god Mithra and Saturn. Most scholars believe Jesus Christ was born in the spring or early fall, but that Roman rulers combined a Christian celebration with pagan practices to influence others into believing in Christ. Celebrate this and you might celebrate that during times of revelry.

But what about other traditions? Those more personal? In my house growing up, we had a little wind chime with the ugliest elf imaginable. My father would hold us kids up to poke at the elf in his house and the chimes would signal Christmas.

And then there’s our traditional little Christmas ditty. It goes like this:
Christmas is coming, the geese are getting fat. Someone put a penny in the old man’s hat. If you haven’t got a penny, a half penny will do. If you haven’t got a half penny then God…bless…you!

And that said, God bless you all during this holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Foxy Lady Releases Today!

By Marie.Harte on September 21, 2010

Well, it’s finally here. The release day for Foxy Lady. I love Cougar Falls, a slice of small town America where shapeshifters live and breathe—where Sheriff Ty Roderick keeps order but can’t keep his mind off Julia Easton, a silver fox who’s been giving him the cold shoulder lately.

Ty first made an appearance in Rachel’s Totem back in 2008. Then again in 2009 in In Plain Sight. Julia was getting into trouble from the first, but it’s not her fault. Family—you can’t help your parents or your siblings, and Julia has her hands full dealing with family secrets, her rebellious younger sister, and her unnerving attraction to the arrogant sheriff. Throw in some backwoods bad guys and arrogant male Shifters and it just gets crazy-fun.

During the editing process, I got a new editor. She suggested some changes that had me adding an entirely new first chapter and a new ending for clarity. The new ending stayed, but the new first chapter got the axe in place of the old one. So I made it my Foxy Lady Prelude.

To read the prelude in PDF, click here. For the actual novel,Foxy Lady, click here.

Cougar Falls, Montana. A place where the folks are friendly, funny, and sometimes furry. Shapeshifters abound, and humans steer clear thanks to a magical totem that protects the town from outsiders. Millie’s has the best ice cream for miles, the town sheriff is as wily as a fox, and the mayor is a real cougar when it comes to younger men—when she’s not on four feet howling at the moon.

The cats are a pain in the ass, the silver foxes too prissy for their own good. The raptors don’t know up from down anymore, since their leadership has gone down the drain. The bears cause a lot of mischief for Shifters who barely take the time to walk through town, and the damned gray wolves don’t like to play by anyone’s rules.

It’s a wonder the sheriff hasn’t put more of the more colorful citizens in jail. But he’s running out of room, and truth to tell, he hasn’t been paying the best attention to things lately. And rumor has it he’s got a thing for that pretty little vixen, Julia Easton. The same Julia who’s been missing for a few days, her and her sisters too.

The sheriff thinks she needs his help. But what she really needs is his heart…

I get such a thrill writing about the shapeshifters of Cougar Falls. To me, there’s something so satisfying about a small town where the people look after one another. Cougar Falls takes it one step further. There, the Ac-taw (shapeshifters) live, love and hunt together. Not everyone’s happy all the time of course. There are town gossips, the occasional bar fight, cheating hearts, court dates and political rallies. Couples fall in love, marry, and fight on a regular basis. And that’s what gives the town its charm—normalcy under the blanket of shapeshifting magic.

From Rachel’s Totem, to In Plain Sight, to Foxy Lady, each story has at heart a woman and a man needing each other, even if they don’t see it right away. Writing about the people in that Montana town makes me want to hitch up my wagon and move on in. Heck, if I was lucky enough, I could take one of the Chastell tours in Whitefish to see the sights and maybe snag a fish or two. Of course, that’s as long as Grady Chastell, the lazy cat, keeps his mind on business and not on… Well, I’d best save that for later. Wouldn’t do to let the cat of the bag yet, so to speak.

I’m going to be dreaming about cool mountain air, the beautiful wildlife and Millie’s ice cream while I try not to melt in the sweltering summer down here in Georgia. Keep cool, and if you get a chance, take a ride up to Cougar Falls for me.

Foxy Lady coming to Samhain in September

Cougar Falls

By Marie.Harte on March 5, 2010

Cougar Falls, Montana, is a magical place. The first time I wrote about it, I just knew I’d like to live there. A small town where folks take care of one another, where the sheriff upholds the law, the ice cream parlour has been up and running for decades, and seasonal town festivals celebrate goodwill. Except the only way to live in the town is to be born there. And to be born there, you need to be rather special. An Ac-taw—shapeshifter—or at least the descendant of one.

In Cougar Falls, there’s the catamount pride, the wolf clan, bear clan, raptor clan, and silver fox clan. And I’m sure there are a few other shifters who’ll show up from time to time. But if you’re not part of a clan or pride, you can’t live in Cougar Falls. The community’s safety comes first, and the town has been in place for hundreds of years because town folks subscribe to town law.

I wrote Rachel’s Totem, about a woman who visits Cougar Falls when her aunt dies and learns she’s got Ac-taw blood and a heavy responsibility to the town. I wanted to write something different for a cat shifter anthology, and Cougar Falls was born.

Then I wrote In Plain Sight, about the raptor clan, birds of prey with their own rules. A character from Rachel’s Totem never sat well with me, and I thought that maybe I’d misunderstood her, as had other members of the close-knit community. And so Sarah, a woman done wrong, finds her place and a deep and abiding love with her own golden eagle shifter.

In September, Foxy Lady will release from Samhain. The town sheriff finally tracks down the woman who’s eluded him for years. Julia, a canny silver fox, can’t outrun her heart any longer. And dangerous circumstances prove there’s nothing better than a silver fox when it comes to outwitting an enemy.

Here’s a blurb and an excerpt from Foxy Lady. Enjoy!
____________________________________________________________________

Sheriff Ty Roderick likes order, but Julia Easton is one vixen that turns his well-ordered life upside down. She’s cool, contained, and unshakable. Until one night she makes him an offer he hates to, but must, refuse. Now the one woman he can’t stop thinking about won’t give him the time of day. And then she vanishes. When he learns she’s in danger, he rushes to help and finds more than he bargained for.

Julia took a huge chance and fell flat on her face, rejected. Trying to save her younger sister from the same fate is giving her fits. The man Meghan’s engaged to isn’t a shapeshifter, he’s human, his family likes to hunt, and his bully of an older brother is fixated on Julia. When Ty comes to the rescue, Julia plans to use him and lose him. But Ty isn’t going anywhere. Instead, he gives her the answer she wanted the first time she asked, if she can only find the courage to accept it.

__________________________________________________________________

Ty Roderick didn’t know whether to beat Julia or kiss her senseless. Just seeing her again aroused him in a way he was hard pressed to explain. Her scent, the feel of her smooth skin under his hands, her soft kiss, all of it made him want to throw her down on the nearest bed and take her until he couldn’t move. He wanted to tie her to him and make her admit she couldn’t stop thinking about him. Because he sure as hell couldn’t stop thinking about her.

Hearing that Neanderthal claim Julia as his had nearly ended the man’s life. It had taken a lot of discipline to remain still. And Ty didn’t like that loss of control. As town sheriff, he came into contact with conflict on a daily basis. He had a reputation as calm and collected. So why did Julia Easton tie him in knots?

At least the woman looked nervous. As well she should.

“Well? I’m waiting,” he said in a quiet voice, pleased when Julia and Gabby jumped.

The three sisters were exceptionally popular in the clan, as well as in the town itself. Meghan being the youngest, no one had balked when she’d left town for college on the outside. Still, this Jason business would need some explaining.

Everyone liked Gabby, the most outgoing and genial of the three. She had a tawny complexion that suited her dark red hair, and a curvy frame where Meghan and Julia were leaner.

Slender, sexy, and beautiful. Julia made him ache. She made him want to beg. He huffed. A Roderick didn’t beg. Hell, at home he rejected offers left and right. But not from Julia, not until the sly vixen had propositioned him, drunk as a skunk. Now how the hell could he say yes to that and not have her hate him in the morning?

Meghan was the first to answer him. “Ty, uh, I’m, well…”

“Get on with it, Meghan.” She really was cute. A younger version of Julia.

“The brat thinks she’s in love,” Julia said, her words laced with disgust. Her gaze met his before it skittered back to her sister.

“I am in love,” Meghan retorted. “Just because you’re turning into the neighborhood cat lady is no reason to be jealous I’ve found someone special.”

Ty coughed to smother a laugh. “Cat lady?”

“You know, the old lady with no life who lives with like thirty cats for company.”

“We like cats,” Gabby defended, shooting Meghan a look that surprised Ty. She seemed genuinely annoyed.

Meghan flushed. “I’m just saying Julia blames me for having a sex life.”

“I so did not need to hear that,” Ty muttered.

Julia’s eyes sparkled and her scent grew richer. In a fury, the little spitfire turned him hard in a heartbeat. He casually crossed the room to stand behind an oversized chair to hide his erection. Talk about embarrassing, not to mention irritating. The vixen made him crazy like no one could.

“Okay, you want to talk about your sex life? Fine. Are you using birth control? Does Jason know what can happen when you go into heat? Is he prepared to help rear your litter?” Julia sneered.

Fascinated, Ty watched the family interplay. He’d never seen Julia so impassioned. Normally, she did her job with calm precision and couldn’t be described as anything other than cool. But with Meghan, she acted like a virtual firecracker. A sultry redhead with a temper to boot. God, he wanted her.

Meghan stared from Julia to Ty and back, her cheeks scarlet. “I am not going to talk about this in front of Ty.”

Thank God.

She continued. “I’m going to call Jason to come get me.” Tears filled her eyes. “He’s the only one that understands me. The only one who cares!” She sobbed and fled the room.

Everyone stared at the slammed door in silence.

After a moment, he asked, “You sure she didn’t major in drama?”

Julia’s lips curved.

Gabby choked on a laugh. “I’ll go talk to her. You deal with him,” she said to Julia, a knowing look in her eyes that made Julia blush. Gabby joined Meghan in the bedroom, leaving Julia and Ty alone together.

“Now it’s just you and me, honey. Where should we start?”

Julia gnawed on her lower lip, and he wanted to kiss the sting away. She turned her direct amber-eyed gaze on him. “Why are you here?”

“You’re welcome for saving you, by the way. Or would you rather I stepped aside, so you and Ned can head down the aisle?” he asked dryly.

“Please. I can handle Ned.”

“Oh?”

“Granted, he’s an ass. But I know how to handle the type.” The look she gave him heated his blood to boiling.

“I raced nearly two hundred miles on no sleep and shitty gas station food. I left the raptors in a frenzy, ready to rip out Sarah Duncan’s feathers one by one. The bears are at the throats of the gray wolves again, and half our clan is in favor of instituting a new mating policy, whereby the silver foxes will soon have arranged marriages. I left all that behind to save you from hunters.”

“Hunters?” Julia blinked in confusion. “Rip out Sarah’s feathers? Is she okay?”

He spoke through gritted teeth. “The Whitefeathers and Gerald have it all under control. Sarah’s the one who told me you were having trouble with hunters.”

“What do the Whitefeathers have to do with this?”

“Julia, focus, would you? Why would Sarah think you were dealing with Hunters?” Hunters lived to kill Ac-taw. Certain outsiders knew the shapeshifters existed, and a group of them always seemed prepared to annihilate any and all Shifters they could find. The thought of Julia being hunted down and killed had nearly stopped his heart before he’d managed to bear down and concentrate on finding her.

“Hunters? Where would she get that idea?” Her expression cleared. “Oh. Right. The last time we spoke I mentioned Jason’s family’s disgusting hobby of mounting dead things in their homes. She might have gotten the wrong impression.”

“I’m not sure she did. Ned Williams seems pretty threatening.” And he likes you way too much for my liking.

“He is, but he’s nothing I can’t handle.” Now she sounded like the competent legal assistant he knew her to be. Sexy, unruffled, self-contained. “I’m sorry if you rushed out here on our behalf, but we’re fine.”

“Oh, right. I can see that. Some asshole just shot all of our tires. Your sister is involved with an outsider the clan knows nothing about, and you’re getting married to Ned No-Neck Williams.”

Julia pinched the bridge of her nose. “I didn’t say were weren’t having some problems, but it’s a family matter. Not your concern, Ty.”

He liked her saying his name. He’d like it a whole lot better if she’d cry it out as her body clenched around his in orgasm. “Oh, but it is my concern. Meghan’s in some serious trouble. And it doesn’t seem like she’s going to drop this Jason anytime soon.”

“I know.” Julia sighed. “But we’ll handle it.”

“Yes, we will.” Ty made a sudden decision. Maybe he could fix a few issues at once. He had no transportation at the moment. Considering the “long line of Williamses” in Nowhere, he’d venture a guess he’d have a hard time finding spare tires for his truck in town.

Time to match wits with a sexy, conniving adversary. Satisfaction flooded him at thoughts of tangling with Julia again. He really had missed her.

“What does ‘we will’ mean?” Suspicion made her voice husky.

“It means I’m here to fix a few things. But first thing’s first.” He took a step closer, pleased when she licked her lips, nervous.

“Ty—”

He said what he should have answered the first time she’d asked, four weeks ago. “Yes, Julia. Yes, I’ll take you home and make love to you until neither of us can walk.”

He kissed her before she could close her pretty mouth.

I hope you enjoyed reading the excerpt!

The Art of the Cover

By Marie.Harte on October 23, 2009

Would you pick up a book with this picture as the cover? I would. That blue and well, yes, that hot bod and tattoo would urge me to take a closer look.

I’ve blogged about the importance of titles for books, but let’s face it. No matter how great your story is, if you have a crappy cover, chances are, no one’s going to bother to read it unless you’re Oprah’s next book club selection. Samhain authors are fairly lucky. We get input on our covers, and the artists here are extremely talented.

I have sold more copies of Enjoying the Show than I’d ever dreamed. I want to think my writing is that stellar—don’t we all? But a lot of the attraction to the romance started with that killer cover.

Romance readers tend to be women. Women tend to like men. Covers with hot men are appealing to the vast majority of buyers. Yet there’s a line, I think, when it comes to purchasing a book in the bookstore. I write erotic romance. Yet I rarely buy a book that’s too suggestive. A hint of nudity, not the whole shebang. Try checking out of a bookstore with a title like Do Me Hard and a naked man letting it all hang it out surrounded by nubile young women (note, I made up the title. Please don’t tell me that’s out there in the romance section). I like to think I’m open to anything, but walking out of a Barnes & Noble with that book would make me blush three shades of red.

Purchasing an ebook from the comfort of my own home, now that’s a different story. Smaller presses should love me. I love to read, and I’m not afraid to spend my last dollar on an ebook vice a Starbucks coffee. I frequent familiar publishers and Fictionwise a good bit. And you know what? When looking for something new to read, I’ll breeze right over an ugly, “looks like I could have Photoshopped it myself” cover. The majority of the old Poser covers made the characters look too blocky, and you don’t see many of them anymore. Though whatever software the new artists are using to create incredible scifi covers are intriguing.

Technology does amazing things. With cover artists like Scott Carpenter, Anne Cain, Natalie Winters and others, it’s no wonder Samhain stands out, and that’s to say nothing about the authors! I sound like I’m tooting the Samhain horn, and perhaps I am. But the next time you’re looking for a book to read, think about what draws you to a book by an author you don’t know. I guarantee the cover has something to do with your decision.

The summer schedule always throws off my writing schedule. Heck, it throws off my life. I must now devote myself to my children 24/7, as opposed to dropping them off at school. The little monsters, er, buggers, must be constantly entertained or they get creative, and not in a good way. I have boys, so “creative” often devolves into “destructive.” By nature I’m a lazy person and I’ve always worked best under deadlines, guidelines, and rules. So now I must find ways to instill self-discipline if I want my house to remain intact and finish the darned book I committed to write by early July. If you’re like me and need help “organizing” thought, here’s a glimpse of my life as I try to make do.

How I compress real work in little time. Step One. Wake Up.

Today’s schedule of events:
0600 Turn off alarm
0615 Turn off snooze
0702 Get stepped on by 4-yr-old as he crawls into bed
0735 Wake to insistent nagging of 5-yr-old
0740 Morning ablutions
0800 After feeding children, nag them until they get in the ^%$#@!! car
0815 Switch lanes to manage slow-as-molasses traffic, only to arrive at destination behind that ^%$#@!! SUV that refused to do the speed limit (Note: Watch the negativity before Karma kicks you in the keester)
0830 Still arrive on time to drop kids off at church (Vacation Bible School), drive to local coffee house
0845 Grab coffee after waiting for a new pot and head to ASU library to work
0905 Sit in empty reference section, turn on the muse, and type. Wonder why the ^%$#@!! WIFI doesn’t work on my laptop in here, and consider how best to post to the Samhain weblog without connectivity.

You’ll note the multiple uses of foul language above, all of which were said internally. However, it should be noted that the more coffee I drink, the more tolerance I have for idiots—myself included—and thus, the less internal cursing.

Now that you’re all caught up, I’d like you to know I have another two hours before I have to leave the library to get my kids. That’s two more hours of work I can now get done on a manuscript I’m halfway finished that’s due in a week. With less time to write, when I do get the time, I find myself working harder, faster and smarter. Why is that? Because there’s no spare time to fiddle with the Internet, watch the grass grow, or consider the monstrous fur balls whizzing around my hardwood floor, thanks to dogs that won’t stop shedding. Now this week is different from my typical summer days, because this is the week of Vacation Bible School, where the kiddies have fun for a few hours and I get some refreshing, much needed time to myself.

How do you get anything done if you have kids? If you don’t and you’re stuck behind a desk all day, when do you write/read/work on YOU between keeping up the house, working at a day job, and running errands? Is less time more for you, or do you need a ton of hours during the day to get things done to make your heart happy?

Curious…

Wish me luck, and pray I have another cup of coffee before I throw my computer through a library window.

In Plain Sight

By Marie.Harte on June 9, 2009

In a choice between fight or flight, love makes the final decision.

In Plain Sight is the second book set in Cougar Falls, a town that caters to the Ac-taw, shapeshifters of various breeds. Cats, bears, wolves, foxes, and raptors—birds of prey. This is the story of what happens when a woman finds the love of her life right under her nose, in plain sight.

Cullen Whitefeather is Ac-taw –a fierce golden eagle shapeshifter. The ultimate predator, he doesn’t shy away from confrontation…unless it involves one tempting, smart-mouthed woman. The woman destined to be his mate. The woman who doesn’t even know he’s alive.

Sarah Duncan made one mistake years ago and hasn’t stopped paying for it since. Tired of the town’s treatment, she finally tells the truth about what really happened and pays a hard price. Her clan wants to silence her. Permanently.

Rescue comes from a completely unexpected source—Cullen, a man who can barely seem to string two sentences together. Yet his fierce protectiveness, compassion, and bewitching touch are worth more than a thousand words.

With Sarah so close, Cullen is losing his mind—and his heart. She says she wants to leave, and the raptors want her gone. But if there’s one thing Cullen’s good at, it’s a fight. And he’s not letting her go without one.

Warning: this book contains explicit sex, a woman done wrong, birds of prey, sexy men who can’t talk to women, and red hot lovin’ that’ll make you wish you could fly.
