If you’ve ever watched a bad movie or a mediocre TV show, you know the drill. Female characters fall into one of two categories: good girls and bad girls. Virgins and whores. It’s a fact of fiction that’s been going on for decades now.
And it’s wrong. Just plain wrong.

The fact of the matter is that there are (for lack of a better cliché) so many shades of gray. The woman who works hard and does the right thing in her professional life may keep a dozen lovers on rotation, and the prim girl who’s never touched another person may be secretly poisoning her father. So why do we keep seeing these archetypes over and over and over again?

In my new book, Take What You Want, the main character, Ellen, had been feeling the strain of trying to conform to just one mode of being.
