Description
Sometimes the adventure chooses you.

Lover of fine poetry and lousy choose-your-own-adventure novels, Professor Sebastian Swift was once the bad-boy darling of the literati. The only lines he does these days are Browning, Frost and Cummings. Even his relationship with the hot, handsome Wolfe Neck Police Chief Max Prescott is healthy.

When one of his most talented students comes to him bruised and begging for help, Swift hands over the keys to his Orson Island cabin—only to find out that the boy’s father is dead and the police are suspicious. In an instant, the stable life Swift has built for himself hangs on finding the boy and convincing him to give himself up before Max figures out Swift’s involvement in the case.

Max enjoys splitting an infinitive or two with his favorite nutty professor, but he’s not much for sonnets or Shakespeare. He likes being lied to even less. Yet his instincts—and his heart—tell him his lover is being played. Max can forgive lies and deception, but a dangerous enemy may not stop until Swift is heading up his own dead poet’s society.

Professor Sebastian Swift finds himself caught up in a murder mystery after one of his students unexpectedly comes to him for help one evening. Not knowing what is going on and wanting to be helpful, he gives the student the keys to his cabin and then confounds the situation when he fails to share this fact with his police chief boyfriend, Max. And as the plot thickens, Swift quickly finds there are more people involved than he might have expected and the whole situation brings him up against his own troubled past which he had been trying to put behind him.

Another good mystery from Josh Lanyon. This was one that I hadn't really figured out until closer to the end, and those are always my favorite types of mystery to read. There are definitely enough twists to really keep you guessing as a reader. Though there are moments when I felt the pacing was a bit off (things could have moved more quickly), I enjoyed this one.

Another good Josh Lanyon book. Great characters and an interesting mystery make this a fun read.

An absolutely enchanting book which unfortunately is much too short. I hope we'll get to see more of Swift and Max. Great, well-rounded characters, down to the secondary ones, written so you started to care for them right away. Swift is huggable and Max' journey is believable and oh so well drawn. Great interweaving of plot and subplots and issues of the various people. More please!

What a beautifully written, wonderful book, it´s going straight to my favorites. Swift had to fight a terrible struggle against his addiction, I loved both his strength and vulnerability. Max is a rock.
